The Mediterranean Yacht Club MYC was founded in spring 2012 and registered as a non-profit sports organisation in Ahrensburg, Germany. It is member of the regional “Landessportbund Schleswig-Holstein”. The base of the multinational MYC is Mallorca - as numerous club members live and work here.

 

The aim of the club is to promote sailing as a recreational and competitive sport, so both cruising and racing, offer nautical training for adults, teens and children, as well as the purchase and maintenance of own yachts. The club offers its members numerous sailing activities: regatta training at a professional level, participation in races, day trips & fun sailing and cruising. Sailing days for socially disadvantaged youth will be planned as well.

 

The first yacht owned by MYC, the 50-foot racing yacht MYC-ONE (Ex-"Container"), arrived in early October 2012 and is now based in Port Andratx. She is always participating in the series of winter races of the Club de Vela in Port Andratx and starts at other regattas as well. Club members can as well sail the cruising yacht MYC-TOO, a Bavaria 40 S built 2012, 3 Laser sailing dinghies and our rib tender MYC-Rib.

 

In 2018, the Mediterranean Yacht Club counts around 100 members – from Germany, the others from Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Liechtenstein and The Netherlands. The annual membership fee is 250 Euro plus 20 Euro per sailing day. New members are always welcome. As Mallorca is a perfect sailing area with perfect conditions all year long and because of very good flight connections, membership is interesting for sailors from all European countries.

Der Mediterranean Yacht Club e.V. MYC wurde im Frühjahr 2012 gegründet und als gemeinnütziger Verein in Kiel eingetragen, aktueller Sitz ist Ahrensburg. Er ist Mitglied im Landessportverband Schleswig-Holstein. Die sportliche Basis des multinationalen MYC ist Mallorca – zahlreiche Clubmitglieder leben und arbeiten hier.

 

Ziel des Clubs ist die Förderung des Segelsports als Freizeit- und Leistungssport, also sowohl das Fahrtensegeln als auch die Beteiligung an Regatten, die Vermittlung von seemännischen Kenntnissen für Erwachsene, Jugendliche und Kinder sowie die Anschaffung und Unterhaltung von clubeigenen Yachten und Jollen. Seinen Mitgliedern bietet der Club zahlreiche Segelaktivitäten an: sportliches Regattatraining auf professionellem Niveau, die Teilnahme an den Wettfahrten, Tagestörns & Funsegeln sowie Fahrtensegeln. Die Organisation von Segeltagen für sozial benachteiligte Jugendlichen ist ebenfalls geplant.

 

Die erste clubeigene Yacht, die 50-Fuß Regattayacht „MYC-ONE“ (Ex-„Container“), wurde Anfang Oktober 2012 übernommen und liegt jetzt in Port Andratx. Sie nimmt dort an der Serie der Winterregatten des Club de Vela Port Andratx teil. Außerdem können Clubmitglieder Laser-Jollen nutzen.

 

Derzeit hat der Mediterranean Yacht Club rund 70 Mitglieder: neben Seglern aus Deutschland sind auch Mitglieder aus der Schweiz, Österreich ,Spanien, Schweden, Polen, Liechtenstein und Holland dabei. Der Mitgliedsbeitrag liegt bei 250 Euro im Jahr plus 20 Euro pro aktivem Segeltag. Interessenten und neue Mitglieder sind jederzeit willkommen . Wegen der guten Erreichbarkeit Mallorcas, wo ganzjährig gute Segelbedingungen herrschen, ist die Mitgliedschaft für Segler aus ganz Europa interessant.

Januar / January 2012

Lust zum Regatta-Segeln, aber keine Rennyacht vorhanden: eine Gruppe von deutschen Seglern und Skippern auf Mallorca wollte, vor allem auch in der ruhigeren Wintersaison, verstärkt ihrem Hobby nachgehen. Auf der Rückfahrt von der Messe Düsseldorf nach Mallorca entwickelten die beiden Skipper Jörn Möller und Sven Hadler die Idee von der Gründung eines eigenen Yacht-Clubs. Sie wussten auch, dass die berühmte Regatta-Yacht „Container“, die 1993 den Admiral's Cup gewonnen hatte, eventuell günstig an einen Verein abgegeben werden sollte. Drei Tage später begannen die sieben Gründungsmitglieder mit den Vorbereitungen zur Gründung des MYC – das Projekt war geboren.

 

Eager to sail races, but no yacht available: a group of German boat captains and sailors living on Majorca wanted to pursue their passion more intensely, especially during the quiet winter season. Driving back from Düsseldorf Boat Show to Majorca, the boat captains Jörn Möller and Sven Hadler developed the idea of founding their own yacht club. And they knew that „Container“, the famous racer that won the Admiral's Cup in 1993, would eventually be available at reasonable conditions for a non-profit club. Three days later, the seven founding members started the foundation of the MYC – the project was born.

Die Clubyacht kommt an ihrem neuen Liegeplatz in Port Andratx an – Mitglieder des Club hatten sie von ihrem alten Liegeplatz in Valencia überführt. Noch am gleichen Abend übergibt Dirk Neumann als Vertreter von Udo Schütz die Bootsschlüssel offiziell an den MYC.

Ihre erste Regatta für den MYC gewinnt die informell jetzt „MYC-ONE“ genannte „Container“ gleich bei ihrem ersten Start vor Port Andratx – mit 35 Minuten Vorsprung nach gesegelter und 18 Minuten Vorsprung nach berechneter Zeit.

 

„Container“, now informally called „MYC-ONE“, wins the first race as she starts for the new club for the first time ever – sailing at Port Andratx, 35 minutes ahead according elapsed time, 18 minutes ahead according corrected time.

Nach der Raiffeisen Privatbank Liechtenstein und HDI Versicherungen steigt Gaastra als weiterer Sponsor ein. Der Mediterranean Yacht Club wird Mitglied im Landessportbund Schleswig-Holstein. Als weiteres Boot steht den Mitgliedern jetzt auch eine Platu 25 zur Verfügung. Durch eine Kooperation mit dem Club de Vela Port Andratx können sie auch Laser-Jollen nutzen.

 

Gaastra is official sponsor now – as well as Raiffeisen Privatbank Liechtenstein and HDI Insurance who are sponsors since 2012. MYC becomes a member of „Landessportbund Schleswig-Holstein.“ Members can sail now as well a racer Platu 25. Due to a cooperation with Club de Vela Port Andratx they can use as well Laser boats.

Zum Zeitpunkt der ersten offiziellen Mitgliederversammlung am 17. Februar 2013, zählt der MYC rund 70 Mitglieder – neben Seglern aus Deutschland sind auch Mitglieder aus der Schweiz, Österreich ,Spanien, Schweden, Polen, Liechtenstein und Holland dabei.

 

At the first official assembly of members, MYC counts now around 70 members - around 50 per cent come from Germany, the others from Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Liechtenstein and The Netherlands.

Mit mehr als 100 Mitgliedern ist der Club weiter gewachsen. MYC-ONE wird weiter sehr aktiv gesegelt und hat zwischenzeitlich an allen Winter-Regattaserien des Club de Vela Port Andratx teilgenommen, ist auf der Palmavela gestartet und auf der Langstrecken-Regatta Ruta de Sal.

 

Auch die Club-Flotte ist gewachsen: Ausser MYC-ONE steht Clubmitgliedern unsere Bavaria 40S MYC-TOO als Cruising-Schiff zur Verfügung, 3 Laser bringen den Jollenseglern Spass - und ein Rib in Port Andratx wird auch viel genutzt. 

 

With more than 100 members, the club has grown further. MYC-ONE continues to sail very actively and has meanwhile participated in all the winter regatta series of the Club de Vela Port Andratx, has started on the Palmavela and on the long-distance regatta Ruta de Sal.


The fleet has grown as well: Apart from MYC-ONE club members can sail our cruising yacht MYC-TOO, a Bavaria 40S,  3 laser sailing dinghies and a Rib in Port Andratx.
